Red Sand is a Mass Effect fan film starring the voice of Commander Shepard himself, Mark Meer. It was produced by the students and faculty of the Digital Video Program at the University of Advancing Technology in Tempe, Arizona.
The short 14 minute fan film serves as a prequel, and takes place 35 years before the Mass Effect video games. The film is well acted and has a good dose of sci-fi action and suspense. The CGI, film style, and special effects are high quality. The story does a great job of explaining the discovery of the Prothean artifact, how humans used biotics, and the Mass Effect Relay. If you never played any of the Mass Effect games, you probably want to watch this anyway, because the film is superb.
If you’re a casual gamer who hasn't played Mass Effect yet, the film does a great job of capturing the video game experience.
I wish this was a series, I love me some Mass Effect.
Cool Vids is a segment where I showcase cool videos I found on the internet. There’s a lot of cool stuff on the web and I save you the trouble of finding it.
