Nerdist Podcast Live - Philly

Chris Hardwick, Matt Mira, and Jonah Ray were filming their Nerdist podcast at the Trocadero in Philly and, of course, I had to go.  I happen to live about 1 block away, which made it convenient.  I was already mad that I missed the filming of Chris Hardwicks Comedy Central special in New York City a few months back.  I thought this would be the perfect time to christen my new N7 Mass Effect T-shirt that I have been saving for a special event.

I had no expectations that night, other than watching the show for a couple of hours and going back home to watch Tron for the 150th time.  I walked by the Troc about 2 hours before the show and noticed there was already a line.  As much as I love the show, I am not a person who likes lines, I don’t care if I sit in the back, on the floor.  Expectedly, this is exactly where I ended up :(

Then the watiress whispered, “There’s seats at the balcony.” so I ended up right next to the stage.  I headed over while Chris was in the middle of his stand up and he yells,“Hey, Mass Effect guy!”  I responded with “I have an Asian Sheppard!”.  Seeing as this is Chinatown, I figured this would be appropriate time to promote the Asian Shep, since people seem to be all about the Fem Shep.  He has a little fun with me, I was honored, and it was awesome.
Special guest Ben Franklin, was amazing, and the show was a blast.

In an effort to promote this site, I wanted to throw my business card at them before they walked off stage.  I needed a precise throw, with perfect timing. I wanted it land in front of them as they were walking off stage. Had this been a real shuriken, it would have been perfect. However I ended up throwing it behind them, it landed on the stage, to be sweeped up at the end of the night by the custodian.  Oh well, better luck next time.

But wait, there’s more!  My lovely and awesome other half managed to get us free tickets for the second show, which was filming in 15 minutes.  In the process, I met a couple of peeps who were at the first show, and we quickly hit up the local bar before heading back in  The second show was still amazing, and funny,  However I had already been there for 3 hours and I was getting a little tired, and buzzed.  I figured I would say good bye to my new friends, and head home.  As I was walking out Chris Hardwick yells “Is this a business card?” I froze.  He picks up my business card and starts reading it on stage!  I yelled, “It’s me, the Asian Sheppard!”  He cracks even more jokes, I play along, and we all had a good laugh.  I don’t know if it will make the podcast, but it would be so amazing if it did.  And if it doesn’t, it’s all good!

I decided to finish the show, and I’m so glad I did because they had special guest, Skeletor.  For those not from Philly, Skeletor hosts a Kareoke show at the Trocadero.  If you’re ever in town, you need to check it out, it’s hilarious, and the guy who plays Skeletor is in complete Skeletor garb. He plays a convincing Skeletor, and he even has the accent down pat. Or is it an actor???

When the show ended, I was ready to head home, but wait, there’s more!  As I’m walking out I see people standing around and it’s Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray, and Matt Mira!  I waited in a short line and I got to meet them.  I told Matt how I was watching him on Attack of the Show, right before I went to the show and he was digging it.  I basically geeked on Chris and told him how awesome it was he mentioned me!  He even agreed to an email interview.  Although he probably won’t remember me, and my email isn't likely to get through, he was still awesome and this is an experience I’ll never forget.
