Interview With Dave Bullis, Creator Of The Game Over Series

I got a chance to chat online with Dave Bullis, the Creator/Director/Writer/Executive Producer of the Game Over Series at http://www.gameoverseries.com

Game Over is a half hour comedy about 5 employees working at a video game store. In each episode the employees find themselves in varying situations as they interact with store duties, customers, other stores in the shopping center, and each other.

I am very excited about this series and I can’t wait until it’s released. As a former Babbages employee, I know all the ins and outs of a typical video game associate’s day.   With all the strange characters and stories, there’s enough comedy material to last for years.

Dave, what gave you the idea to start a comedy series based on a video game store?  Did you ever to work at one?

Hey Mike! Thanks for the interview. Yes I did. I worked at EB Games from 2001-2003.  The idea has been going around in my head for years. It was the right time and opportunity. The response thus far has been very good. We're now in the process of pitching the show. I've been very fortunate with my contacts, etc.

According to your LinkedIn page, you are the Creator/Director/Writer/Executive Producer.  Whew, that sounds like a lot of work.  How do you manage your time to fill all these roles?

haha. Yea it was beyond a full time job. You basically have to work all the time to get a project off the ground especially on the independent level not to mention the social media aspect of it all. So really I had to do alot of this whole 'on the go', answering mountains of emails from my phone. Also working extra hours either staying up late or getting up early.

What are some of the challenges you encountered during the creation and filming of the series?

Preproduction was a beast. Location wise, we had two video game stores back out over stupid reasons. So we had to build the set from the ground up using pieces from a going out of business Blockbuster and Rite-Aid. Luckily we were able to get space at brand new soundstage that was just built in the area.

Quick!  Star Trek or Star Wars?

Star Wars!

Are you mainly a console gamer, or do you also game on the PC or mobile platforms?

Console definitely.

What are some of your favorite games of all time?

I love the Resident Evil and Halo franchises.  Wrestlefest is a big arcade favorite.

What is the absolute WORST game you ever played?

HAHA. Great question. There's so many to choose from... I think it just might have to be The Crow: City of Angels. Remember that game? It was for the PlayStation.  I was so excited to play it and five minutes in I wanted to throw it out the window.

I don't remember The Crow: City of Angels game, but after watching that You Tube video, I almost ripped my eyes out with a spoon. What games are you working on at the moment?

Resident Evil 5.

I love the RE story, but I gave up halfway, I'm not a fan of the stop and shoot mechanic. Are there any games that you are looking forward to this year?

COD: Black Ops 2, Halo 4, Resident Evil 6.

Quick! Candace Bailey or Sara Underwood?

Sara.

How far along is the filming of the Game Over Series?  When and where can excited viewers, like myself, expect to see the show?

The press kit, one sheet and promo video are done. The one sheet has been released but we're waiting till July to release.
